Marion Vandiver Love

IRMO - Marion Juanita Vandiver Love, age 92, of Irmo, South Carolina transitioned to her Eternal Home on October 10, 2021. Mrs. Love was the widow of John Sellers Love, Jr. to whom she was married for more than 52 years.

Mrs. Love was born April 26, 1929 in Gainesville, GA to the late James Herman Vandiver, Sr. and Lessie Mae Hefner Vandiver Sims. She is survived by her daughter, Savon Love Frierson (John); three grandchildren, John Temple Frierson V (Delisa), James Craig Frierson (Cynthia) and Sarah-Kaye Frierson Dorsey (Michael); five great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, James H. Vandiver Jr., Scott F. Vandiver; and her sisters, Ann Vandiver Warr and Julie Vandiver Donald (Tom). She leaves a special friend of many years, Virginia M. Morris. She is an aunt to many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Love was predeceased by two sisters, Montine Elouise Vandiver and Katherine Estelle Vandiver. She was also predeceased by a great-grandson, Ashton Temple Frierson.

During her life, Mrs. Love faithfully served her Church. In her youth, she was a member of The Free Methodist Church in Georgia. Following her marriage and move to South Carolina, she joined the Church of the Nazarene and has served since September 29, 1946. She was a Charter Member of Columbia Grace Church of the Nazarene and Orangeburg Memorial Church of the Nazarene. In addition, she has been a member of Orangeburg First Church of the Nazarene, Sumter First Church of the Nazarene and Columbia First Church of the Nazarene. During these years, she taught Sunday School, served as a local youth leader, and local Missionary President. She served the South Carolina District on the District Youth Council where she was elected District Treasurer. Later she served on the District Mission Council for many years and served as the District Mission Treasurer. After her retirement, she planned and developed the S. C. Church of the Nazarene Archives, which is housed at the District Office.

Her profession was Executive Assistant. She retired from South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Finance Commission. She was also employed by the Credit Bureau of Sumter where she was elected as President of the Credit Women’s Breakfast Club. She later transferred to the Columbia Credit Bureau. She served as the Executive Assistant for the District Church of the Nazarene for two District Superintendents, Dr. Otto Stucki and Dr. D. Moody Gunter.

Mrs. Love had a heart for Missions and had the privilege to travel to several countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Guyana, and South Africa for both Work and Witness trips and special occasions of the churches.

A Celebration of her Life will be celebrated with the Rev. Richard I. Coleman, Rev. John T. Frierson IV and Rev. John T “Tem” Frierson V officiating. The service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at the funeral home. There will be a private interment in Woodridge Memorial Park, Lexington, SC.
