COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Margaret Ildreda Gordon Bass, 95, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at Southside Baptist Church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family. Mrs. Bass, widow of Ralph Lee “Red” Bass, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 21, 2016, with her daughters by her side. Born on March 2, 1921 in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late James Gordon and Margaret “Maggie” Elizabeth Cameron Gordon. Margaret was a devoted wife, a loving, caring Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great Great-Grandmother, affectionately known as Mema. Ildreda graduated from Olympia High School and Draughon’s Business School. She retired from Federal Land Bank after 40 years. She was Treasurer for the Olympia High School Alumni and was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Surviving are her daughters, Linda Bass Browder of Irmo and Sherry Bass “Bunny” Wages of Chapin; grandchildren, Tammy B. Alexander (George) of Charleston, Teresa W. Swink (Rick) of Chapin, Clyde N. “Nick” Browder Jr. (Natalie) of Chapin, and Libby W. Litts (Matt) of Abbeville; great-grandchildren, Brittany Knowles, Lauren Earle, Kaylee Browder, Autumn Browder and Mattibeth Litts; great-great-grandchildren, Braiden and Mason Earle; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved fiancé, Malcolm Dantzler, three brothers and one sister. Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 702 Whaley Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
