John Dennis Volmer, age 86, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022. Born in Elgin, Illinois, he was the son of the late William Frederick Volmer and Marcel Lagerstrom Volmer. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, where he was a member of the university’s Bands and Orchestra. John retired from the FBI in Columbia after 20 years of service, and also retired after 15 years from the SC Board of Medical Examiners. He was a member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his son, Mark Volmer of Cayce, SC; daughter, Lori V. Smith (Jimmy) of Columbia, SC; granddaughter, Lorelle Smith; sister, Martha Volmer of Texas, and nephew Scott Fender of Texas. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Lorelle Wood Volmer and his nephew Matthew Barrilleaux.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, with burial in Bush River Memorial Gardens. Visitation and reception will be held at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, on Friday, December 2, 2022 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
The family wishes to thank the many friends, church members and health professionals who assisted with John’s care at Brookdale Harbison and NHC National HealthCare Lexington.
