Jackson Henry “Jack” Byars died at home in Irmo, SC on October 13, 2023. Jack was born June 8, 1949 in Jefferson City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warner Shields and Grace Josephine “Jo” Byars. He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years Linda, his children Jason (Megan) Byars and Gretchen (Brett) Ward. He was a beloved “Pawpaw” to his “bud” Colt and baby girl Byars on the way and “Papa Jack” to Alec and Ariana Ward. He is also survived by his twin sister Jane (Larry) Bedsworth and brother Mark (Pam) Byars, Sr, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Jack retired after over 30 years in the refractory construction business that took him from Missouri to St Croix, Puerto Rico, Louisiana, and finally to South Carolina where he and Linda raised their family. He was a lifelong music enthusiast, an American history buff, an avid sports fan, a dog lover, a collector of coins and Zippo lighters, a reader, and was always up on current events. Jack was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and a member of St James Lodge, as well as the Scottish Rite. His greatest joy was his best “bud” Colt, who loved spending time with his “Pawpaw.”
