Gertraud Maria Walker

Mrs. Walker passed away Friday, January 3, 2020. Born in Guzenhausen, Germany, she the only child of the late Karl and Maria Margareta Schmidt Deuter.

Maria was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church and the S.C. Women of ELCA. For many years, Maria was a long-distance truck driver before attending Trident Technical College, where she completed a number of courses in cake decorating and bread baking to refine her baking technique. She was a talented pastry maker and owned Gertraud’s Baked Goodies. In addition to her greatest love, baking for her family, she enjoyed knitting, crafts and reading. Most importantly, Maria was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She especially took great pleasure in her role as a grandmother and loved caring for her grandkids.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Walker; son, Larry (Andrye’l) Walker; daughter, Vanessa (Shawn) McCutchen; grandchildren: Nate Walker, Allyssa Walker, Michaela McCutchen, Jacob McCutchen, Liam Walker, and Alaina McCutchen. She was predeceased by her son, Michael Walker.
