David Dunn Abel of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, with family nearby and comforting him.
Born in Lexington, Mississippi, he was a son of the late Clarence Houston Abel and Mary Lavinia Dunn Abel. David served for eight years in the US Navy aboard the USS Randolph and USNS General Maurice Rose. He was a student at Mississippi State University and later graduated from Lander University with a degree in Business. For 24 years, he and his wife, Evelyn, were the owners of Happy Day Child Care Center located in Irmo. He was also a driver for Intramed Plus and was responsible for delivering critical medical supplies to patients across South Carolina. David was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for over 40 years.
David will be remembered by all who knew him for his easy smile, sweet and gentle nature, and love of telling a good story to friends and even strangers he just met.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Schilpp Abel; daughter, Mary Beth Abel (Taylor Sherman) of Seattle, WA; son, David Allen Abel (Claire) of Atlanta, GA; and grandchildren, Henry Allen Abel and Kaden Clarke Abel Sherman.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Clarence Houston Abel, Jr.; Evander (Van) James Abel; and Frederick (Fred) Eugene Abel.
For their loving support during this time, the family wishes to thank the Redeemer Lutheran Church family, especially Pastor Gary Loadholdt and Pastor Amanda Burke. The Abel family also would like to express their gratitude to the gracious staff, friends, and neighbors at Wellmore of Lexington and to the caring medical community at Lexington Medical Center.
