Charles William Ballentine

CHAPIN - Charles William Ballentine (Bill), 84, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at his home in Chapin. Born in Irmo, SC, on August 23, 1934, he was the son of the late Mattie Koon Ballentine and Malcolm Augustus Ballentine. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann Neil Ballentine; son, Charles William Ballentine, Jr. (Chip) and his wife Claudia Beck Ballentine; daughter, Elizabeth B. Gierhart (Beth) and her husband Guy James Gierhart; sister, Margaret B. Coogler; and four grandsons, Charles William Ballentine III (Chase), Guy James Gierhart, Jr., Alexander Manning Ballentine (Alex), and William Neil Gierhart (Will).

Mr. Ballentine graduated from Irmo High School and the University of South Carolina where he earned a B.S. in Accounting. He retired in 1998 as Executive Director of the S.C. Public Service Commission. He was a life long member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 10000 Broad River Road, Irmo where he served many years on the church council and the finance committee.

Mr. Ballentine's nephews will be pallbearers: Dennis Ballentine, Henry Ballentine, Nathan Ballentine, Howard Coogler, Jr., Stanley Coogler, and John Howard.

Contributions may be sent to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Arthritis Foundation, or the SCOA Cares Foundation.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, 7600 Woodrow St. Irmo, SC 29063.
