As a child Randy’s laugh was infectious. He went on to attend Rider and Iowa Park high schools. After school, Randy moved to Washington with his wife Linda and their son Danny to become a chef. That is where his love for good food began. After some time, he moved back to Wichita Falls and got remarried to Jane Cashion, where he had three more sons, Timothy, Zachary, and Benjamin, and adopted a baby girl, Taylor. He and Jane opened several successful Norman’s and Kickapoo Catfish Hole restaurants. Business boomed thanks to Randy’s awesome cooking skills and delicious recipe for tartar sauce. Later Randy also owned Randal’s Cafe on 8th street.
He started work as an insurance adjuster, but left to be closer to his family. He reopened his father’s business, Doan Builders, where he could work with his sons. Eventually, though, he landed on working for Dennis and Marsha Gillispie at Gillispie’s Paint and Body. Randy’s passion for owning and fixing classic cars helped him find enjoyment in this new career.
Randal was an authentic, wild, and loving man. He was always the father his children needed him to be, whether it meant taking them fishing, for joyrides in the car, or just being a space for them to vent. He filled the hearts of everybody in his life.
He was preceded in death by his step-father H.L. Abernathy Jr. He is survived by his mother Marilyn Abernathy, father Robert Doan, sister Robin Cook, and her husband Ray. He is also survived by his sons Randy “Danny” Daniel Doan, Timothy Ray Doan and his wife Paige, Zachary Robert Doan and his wife Mary, Benjamin Ryan Doan, and a daughter Taylor Suzzanne Doan. His grandchildren are Destiny, Harley, Carter, Lydiah, Elijah, Owen, Adalynn, Liam, great grandson Ashton, and his constant companion Zippy Doan.
Services for Randal will be held at Iowa Park Church of Christ, 300 E Park Ave, Iowa Park, TX 76367, on December 31st at 10 a.m.
