Peggy was a devoted wife, beloved mother, dear friend, and “MeMe” to her great grandchildren.
Peggy was born on July 29, 1927 on the parish lease owned by Texaco Oil Company where her father, Harry D. Cobble, Sr. lived and worked as a pumper for the Texas Company with his wife Estella G. Cobble. Peggy went to Geraldine School country school where she met her boyfriend, John Elton Miller, Sr., when he was 14 years old and she was 12. She liked him because he was smart and rod a horse to school. She graduated from Holliday High School, and played the coronet in their band.
When WWII came, her boyfriend, Johnny, answered the call of duty and went away top war in the South Pacific. She waited faithfully for 3 years for him to come home. They were married shortly after his return. He resumed his job with Shell Oil Company, and they started their life journey together. She made a home for her family in the many locations they lived during their 65 years of marriage.
Peggy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Iowa Park, Texas. Her faith, unconditional love, and being an example for her family sustained us all thru many years. Peggy and Johnny were very involved in the Baptist Building Committee. They traveled to many states and built numerous churches for their philanthropy. She will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, John E. Miller, Sr. of Bandera; son, John E. Miller, Jr. and wife Patricia of Pipe Creek, Texas; daughter, Sherrie and her husband Richard Keese of Medina, Texas, two grandsons; Dennis Keese of Medina; John Keese, wife Angie, two children, Call and Cord of LaVerna, Texas; brother Harry D. Cobble, Jr., wife “Dimples” and family of Iowa Park; and Lucy Reynolds of Iowa Park that was more like a sister to her than just a friend.
In lieu of flowers, the family actively supports the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital of Dallas and is sure Peggy would be honored.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Holliday Cemetery with Dr. Darrell Monday officiating.
Services are under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home of Iowa Park, Texas.
