Dean was born on November 27th, 1933 to Jesse and Freda Miller in Eureka Springs. After Dean graduated from Allen Academy, he went into the Army and served as a clerk in a surface-to-air missile battery. He went on to study history and education at Sam Houston University in Huntsville. He eventually earned a Master of Education degree from East Texas in Commerce (now Texas A&M University-Commerce).
After graduating with a degree in history, he started his first job with Brownfield Independent School District as a history teacher, kick starting a 30-year career in public education. Dean served as a teacher, counselor, curriculum director and educational consultant.
In 1960 Dean met Cherie in Brownfield, Texas. Dean and Cherie went on to be married almost 63 years and have three children, Lee, Dee Lynne and Ken.
Pastor Victor Helman confirmed Dean into the Lutheran church on October 4th, 1967, and he became a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church.
In 1989, Dean retired and spent his time following Texas Ranger baseball and Dallas Cowboy football. He was very active caring Cherie’s iris and rose garden. He worked with wood and produced a substantial number of ornate birdhouses.
Dean was predeceased by his parents and his brother Allen Miller of Atlanta, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife, Cherie and children: Lee Allen Miller, Dee Lynne Hudson and spouse Andy Hudson of Colleyville and granddaughter Jessica Hudson and Kenneth Miller and spouse Susan Miller of Hughes Springs and grandchildren, Wesley and Kellie.
He’s also survived by Eileen Miller and her children Jordan and Joshua Miller.
Dean was also survived by Juanita Thomas of Olton and her children Max Thomas, Margret Bell and Connie Maxwell. Surviving great-grandchildren include: Braydon Copeland, Bailey Copeland, Kate Winn, Cason Winn.
Services will be held at Saint Paul Lutheran Church on February 25th at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls or Saint Paul Lutheran Church.
