Mary Eleanor MacPhee

We regret the passing of Mary Eleanor “Eleanor” MacPhee on Monday January 19, 2015 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital at the age of 81. Born in Margaree Forks on December 29, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Didace and Sarah (Miller) Chiasson. Eleanor was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Mabou. After living in Bathurst, New Brunswick for several years, Eleanor returned to Cape Breton and lived in Mabou since 1987. She was very active in community, church and CWL activities. She took pride in giving and home cooking for family and friends especially the elderly at home. Eleanor loved to do the lexicon puzzle saying, “We didn’t see our names in the paper yet”. She is survived by sons, Gerard and James (Christine); grandchildren, Jeffery, Jessica, Sachary and Adam; sisters, Sr. Isabel Chiasson, St. Martha’s, Antigonish; Lorraine (Late Victor) Deveau, Dartmouth; Anne (Angus L) MacKinnon, Margaree Harbour;, Mary Chiasson, Margaree Forks; Theresa (Frank) Richard, Halifax; brothers, Johnny (Ann), Stephen (Rosella), Edgar (Lorna), James (Maureen), all of Margaree Forks; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Margaret, Anita; brother, Robert.

Visitation will be held in St. Mary’s Church Vestry, Mabou, on Thursday, January 22, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Friday in St. Mary’s Church, Mabou at 11a.m. with Fr. Angus Morris officiating .Burial to take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or a charity of your choice.
