Gickie spent her younger days working at the family store in Inverness, then lived and worked in Toronto where she married Raymond. Together they shared 59 years of loving marriage. Her heart called her home to Inverness where she worked in the kitchen at St. Mary’s Hospital, Eatons, and did bookkeeping in the Inverness area. Gickie was happiest when she had a full house and everyone had a full belly. In their house there was always time for one more cup of tea and one more story. She loved to tell a good joke, enjoy the evening bingos, and bake the best of everything from her homemade raisin bread to the best turkey dinner. Gickie's boys and family were everything to her. She shared her love with family and friends in so many ways; her cuddles with the kids, the endless hours she spent making quilts for her loved ones, knitting, and sewing. As your family, we are thankful for you sharing your recipe for happiness. It's hard to see you go, but we find comfort in knowing that you are at peace.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6 in Inverness Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7 in Stella Maris Church Inverness, Fr. Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society or to a charity of choice. The family would like to thank the Inverness Hospital and the Inverary Manor for the loving care that they showed Gickie over the past few years.
