Born in Inverness, he was a son of the late John Duncan and Mary Ellen (MacNeil) MacDougall.
John is survived by his daughter, Kimberley (Richard) Doherty; grandchildren, Megan and Connor Doherty; siblings, Betty Watts, Barbara (Joe) Gillis, Donald (Debbie) MacDougall and Mary Louise (Raymond) Burns; sister-in-law, Cindy MacDougall; uncles, Charlie and Stanley MacNeil as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family, all of whom John shared a special bond.
Besides his parents, John was predeceased by brothers, Brian and Lester; sister, Paula O'Toole; and niece, Jennifer Smyth.
John had a deep faith and a passion for music, reading, his HABS and the great outdoors, especially being on the water. John was a humble man, known for his gentle and caring ways. He touched many hearts and took time to listen and make everyone feel valued. He will be remembered.
We would like to thank the Port Hood Fire Department First Responders, Dr. Susie Egar and all staff of the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital as well as the doctors and nurses of 5.2 in the Halifax Infirmary for all of their compassionate care, we are so grateful.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in Port Hood and Area Resting Place on Tuesday July 4th 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass to take place in St. Peter's Church, Port Hood on Wednesday July 5th 2023 at 11:00 am with Rev. Sunny Sebastian officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
