

The family of Glennie MacMillan is saddened to announce her passing on Sept 16, 2017 in Mac Gillivray Guest Home, Sydney where she resided and was lovingly cared for since 2010. Glennie was born in Marble Mountain, Inverness County on Aug 19, 1921 to parents Matilda "Tilda" MacMillan and Roderick "Big Rod" MacDonald.
Glennie is survived by her son, Keith (Aggie), Westmount, Cape Breton; her adoring granddaughters, Sonya (Grant) MacMillan-Caswell, Calgary and Erin MacMillan, Toronto. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, who affectingly referred to her as Grandma Glennie. She will be missed by good friends, Pearl Taylor, Inverness and Eleanor MacKenna, New Waterford. A proud graduate of The Glace Bay General Hospital School of Nursing, and the University of Manitoba Hospital Management Program. Glennie spent her nursing career at the Inverness Memorial Hospital as Staff Nurse, Head Nurse, Director of Nursing and Interim Hospital Administrator and at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital as Director of ER/Out Patients Department. In her retirement Glennie loved to travel with her lifelong friend and fellow nurse Beulah MacLean, to spend many fun-filled winters in Florida.
Glennie was a member of St Matthews United Church, inverness and of the United Church Women's League before moving to Sydney where she became a member of St Andrews United Church. Glennie will be especially remembered for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. She was a friend to many and graciously opened her home to everyone who Lauchie and Keith brought home, usually at meal time and without notice.
Besides her parents, Glennie was predeceased by her husband, Lauchlin Angus "LA"; sister, Alena MacRay; brother, Peter; cherished nephew, Reverend Glenn MacDonald; as well as her best friend, Beulah MacLean. A very heartfelt thank you to the staff of MacGillivray Guest Home for the love and excellent care they provided.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors on Saturday September 30 in St. Matthews United Church, Inverness from 1-1:45 p.m. with a celebration of life to follow at 2 p.m. Pastor Maggie Plant officiating. Burial to follow in St. Matthews United Cemetery in Strathlorne. Family flowers only please. Donations in Glennie's memory may be made to St. Matthews United Church, Inverness or to a favorite charity.
