Donald Angus MacPherson, 72, died unexpectedly on October 23, 2020 in Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was born November 17, 1947, in Inverness. A son of the late Donald Joseph and Flora Jane (MacLellan) MacPherson, Blackstone.
Donald moved to the United States in 1968 where he met his wife, Mary Diane (Tomkins) MacPherson, from South West Margaree, Cape Breton. They celebrated their 50th anniversary this past July.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his daughter, Mary Christine (Stuart Murray) MacPherson and son, Donald Joseph (Marlo) MacPherson II, kids, Matthew and Megan, both from Londonderry N.H.
Donald was known to all as a kind, generous hard working man, always eager to lend a hand. His family and love of animals were a constant source of joy. When not helping friends and family, he could be found listening to fiddle tunes with his sidekick, Smokey.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Allen, Hughie (Audrey) and Andrew (Myrtle); sister-in-law, Sharon (Edwin) Tompkins and his granddaughter, Diane (DiDi). Surviving in addition to his wife and children are sisters, Annabelle (DD) Gillis and Mary Catherine (Stewart) Gillis, along with many nieces and nephews.
Mass will take place in Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, West Lake Ainslie, Wednesday October 28, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Bernie MacDonald officiating. Internment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, West Lake Ainslie.
Rather than flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the St. Mary's Cemetery Fund.
