Clara peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017 in Inverary Manor, Inverness. Clara was born on July 8, 1927 in Big Interval, the daughter of the late Richard and Marion (Marple) Newton. She was united in marriage to Lewis Dean Evans in the summer of 1948. He preceded her in death. They were married 49 years.
Clara was a teacher in Inverness County for several years and worked as an office administrator for the Evans Coal Limited for 30 years. Clara was also a devoted mother and homemaker and member of the Calvin United Church. Clara loved to crochet and make wild salmon dinners for all the mining associates who passed through the doors of the office over the years. She was kind to all.
She is survived by her eldest son, Gary D. (Stacia) Evans; her beloved grandchildren, Vaughan (Donna) Evans, Trevor (Julia) Evans, Tracey (Aaron) Snow, William Evans, and Darrell D. Evans; her dear great grandchildren, Lucas, Brady, Logan, Samuel and Isyc ; Her sisters, Emma MacKay and Mary MacKay and brother, Allan Newton.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by sons, Bradley in 1954, Bryant in 1995 and Darrell in 2000; a brother, David Newton in 1993; and sisters, Sarah MacAulay 2004 and Ellen Cameron 2012.
The family will receive friends from 3-3:45 p.m. on Friday, September 15, in Calvin United Church, Margaree Harbour with a funeral service to follow at 4 p.m. Burial to follow in Whale Cove Cemetery, Margaree Harbour.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
