June 9, 1962 – June 22, 2020
It is with the greatest of sorrow that we announce the death of Brenda Jane Marie Meagher (MacKinnon), wife of Allie Meagher, Brook Village and mother of Maria Meagher. Brenda passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020 at Inverary Manor where she had lived for the last 2 years under the loving, excellent care of Manor nurses and staff.
Born in Inverness on June 9, 1962, Brenda was the daughter of the late Alex R. (Mim) and Rose Mary (MacIsaac) MacKinnon of Strathlorne, NS. In 2001, she married Allie Meagher and together they welcomed the joy of their lives, Maria Danielle, on January 15, 2004.
Brenda spent the majority of her life doing what she loved best, taking care of others. As an LPN she was held in the highest regard by both fellow staff and patients alike. She began her career at PGU Aitecuram (the former Manor) where she worked for a short time before moving on to Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital where she worked tirelessly for the rest of her nursing career. She loved her co-workers enjoying many hilarious moments with them and had a special place in her memory and heart for all of her patients, whether present or former.
Brenda's infectious laughter, friendliness and willingness to help endeared her to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her love of family and friends shone through as she so looked forward to welcoming them dropping in and coming “home from away” to visit. She was passionate about Cape Breton Island, its music and country music. Eyes lit up when the music began. We'll miss her so much as an integral part of our family.
Brenda is survived by her husband of 19 years, Allie Meagher and her daughter, Maria; three brothers: Lauchie (lynn) - Fort McMurray, Billy - Strathlorne and Ambrose - Strathlorne; four sisters: Margie Beaton (Sandy) - Antigonish/West Lake, Mary Lois - Smithville, Paula - Fort McMurray and Rita Larade (Ricky) - Scottsville; 8 nieces and 6 nephews.
Besides her parents, Brenda was predeceased by her brothers David and Ronnie and her niece, Emma.
Words fail to express the depth of gratitude that we feel toward the wonderful, caring staff at Inverary Manor, Brenda's nurses, support staff, family and friends who have been there for us.
Due to the Covid – 19 crisis, services will be held at a later date.
We would appreciate donations be made to Inverary Manor or a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements rest with Inverness Funeral Home.
