Gillies, Annie Agnes – 94, Port Hood. Agnes passed away peacefully in the Port Hawkesbury Nursing Home on February 8, 2013. A 1938 graduate of NSTC, she taught at Mabou Ridge (38-39), Centennial (39-41), Glenora Falls (41-43), Strathlorne (43-45) and resumed teaching in the 60’s and 70’s at Port Hood Consolidated. She was also book-keeper for her husband’s Massey Ferguson business from 1962-79. A native Gaelic speaker, she loved the language, music and dance of the Highland Scot. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; she was generous in service to family, church and school. She filled her life with acts of kindness to others and saw the goodness in every situation. She was a long-time member of St. Peter’s Parish and CW L and the Port Hood Home & School Association. She lived her faith daily and prayed regularly for her friends and family. She enjoyed “ ceilidhing” with her children and grandchildren, Celtic music, gardening, geneaology, Gaelic conversations, baking, Sunday afternoon tours and a “good cup of tea”. Born August 31,1918, in Black River, she was the daughter of Angus and Annie (Gillis) Beaton. She is survived by her daughters, Clare (Jon Kommes), Calgary; Pauline (J.R.MacDonald),Port Hood; Lorraine (Donnie MacDonald), Fort Mc Murray; sons, John(Cathy) and Francis (Catherine), all of Port Hood; grand children, Melanie, Kelly, Daniel, William, Jane, Leah, Iain, Clarke,Andrew, Michael, Colin, Laura, Samantha,Sabrina, Jesse and Gillies; great-grandchildren, Riley, Keaton, Owen, Avery, Taylor,Cassie, Bridget, Jake, Ryan, Jack, Kennedy, Brett, Hudson and Reece. She was predeceased by her husband, Dan Willie, in 1989, and brothers John Joe Beaton and Freddie Hogan. Her remains will rest in the Port Hood Funeral Home with visitation 7-9 today and 2-4 & 7–9 on Wednesday. Funeral will be held in St. Peter’s Parish Church on Thursday at 11 am with Rev.
