William C. Farrell

William C. Farrell attended Little Flower Grade School, Cathedral High School, graduating in 1947. He was a graduate of Indiana Central Business College, and the Dwyer School of Business in Indianapolis. He also attended The Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin and The Wabash College Institute of Personal Development in Crawfordsville. He served in the Indiana National Guard during the Korean Conflict.

In 1969 when he left AFNB, he was Senior V.P. in charge of all corporate banking activities that encompassed five divisions - Metropolitan, Indiana Division, Correspondent Banking Division, the National Division, the International Division and the Travel Division. He began his career with AFNB when he was 18.

He became President and CEO of Elston Bank and Trust Co., Crawfordsville, Indiana, in 1969, leaving 21 years of service with AFNB. In 1983, he became Chairman of the Board of Elston Bank and Trust Co.

He was Chairman of the Vocational Guidance Committee of Crawfordsville Kiwanis Club, Treasurer of the Montgomery County Unit of the American Center Society, Director of the Wabash Center for the mentally retarded, Vice President of the Lew Wallace District of the Boy Scouts of America, Director of the Crawfordsville Chamber of Commerce and United Fund, Director of Montgomery County Development Corp, a director of H.C. Industries, Crawfordsville and a member of the lay advisory board of St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, Indiana.

He was a member of the Indiana Bankers Association Advisory Committee on the Indiana Banking Code, as well as the membership committee of the American Bankers Association, Indiana Vice President of the American Bankers Association and President of the Indiana Bankers Association Region 4. He served a 2-year term on the Governing Council of the American Bankers Association. He was a Past President of the Indiana Bankers Association and was a director of Broadcast Cable Company and Summit Bank of Indianapolis.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Patricia (Schoettle), daughter Patt (Dyan), sons Bill (Suzanne), John, Tom (Jami), Stephen (Karen), Mike (Louise) and Joe (Shannon), 23 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Joseph Huser and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lucile and a sister, Anne Huser.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 26, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at St. Matthew Catholic Church followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Catholic School (for needy student assistance), Sisters of St. Francis, Oldenburg, IN, or St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.
