She was united in holy matrimony to William “Buddy” Barrett for 26 years. In that union they were blessed with four children—son, Dana I. Barrett and three daughters, Marta D. Glover, Willette Y. Strong, and Thea E. Barrett. Her proudest family moments were the birth of her children and being around her grandkids.
As a result of her tenacity, Wanda graduated from Marian College and served as a nurse for over 35 years. Managing the recovery room at the Roudebush VA Medical Center, becoming a certified post anesthesia nurse, and being awarded the AMVETS nurse of the year were just some of her proudest career accomplishments. Wanda was an active member in St Andrew’s Catholic Church, Chi Eta Phi Sorority, professional nursing sorority and the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary where she served as secretary. These involvements not only brought her great joy but served her community, kept her extremely busy and were, again, just some of her proudest moments.
She peacefully departed this life on Saturday, April 2nd at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Wanda was preceded in death by her sisters; Mary Magalene Young, Georgia Bell Bryant-Boykin, and brother Benny Bryant.
Wanda’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her brothers: William Young and Stanley Young; her children, Dana I. Barrett; Marta D. Glover; Willette Y. Strong, and Thea E. Barrett; Grandchildren: Monwell Benson, David Barrett, Tijana Davis, Dana Barrett Jr, Chantiel Jefferson, Alanna Payne, DeMarkes Dotson, David Durham, Jessica Barrett, Sideia Bell, Darius Barrett, Denzel Barrett, and a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, and close friends.
