A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tom and his family settled in Indianapolis in 1977 upon his military retirement, after which he successfully transitioned to thirty years of meaningful private and public sector work.
Tom volunteered almost daily at Community North Hospital, Heart Hospital, and Anderson Cancer Center in 2016, doing so until his health required him to be at home more in 2022. He was honored by the care provided by his Oncology team, hospital nurses, his neighbors, and the spiritual support which fueled his commitment to extend his time on earth with family.
This American veteran loved the Lord, faithfully serving as usher and council member at Divine Savior Lutheran Church, and more recently as a joyful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Carmel, Indiana. A veteran’s advocate, Tom was a member of VFW Post 1120, American Legion Post 500, and multiple Viet Nam veterans’ groups.
Tom is survived by his daughter Rosie Tinsley (Ivan Bohannon), grandchildren Zehra, Lukas, and Jacob Bohannon, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Trudy (Gebhardt) Wooddell, parents Reese and Mabel Wooddell, sister Agnes (Robert) Karpaw, brother “Ted” (Dorothy) Wooddell, and nieces Tamara King and Barbara (Michael) Flood.
