Sandy accepted Christ at an early age. She was a lifelong member of the Martindale Avenue Church of Christ. She loved her church members and served in various capacities to include Sunday school teacher, choir member, and treasurer. She was recently named as one of the church mothers.
Sandy attended Indianapolis Public School #56 for elementary education and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1959.
Sandy was formerly married to Robert M. Brown, Sr. and blessed to have three children, Darren, Cheryn, and Robert Jr.
Sandy worked for many banks and credit unions in Indianapolis, including American Fletcher National Bank, Financial Center First Credit Union, and Centra Credit Union until her retirement. She held various positions including Teller and Loan Officer.
Sandy loved God which was evidenced by how she treated others. In the home, she made silent sacrifices so her children could succeed. She shared a strong and loving bond with her siblings. In the workplace, she believed in treating everyone with the same kindness and respect regardless of rank or role.
Sandy loved to read and believed books could take her any place she wanted to go. Sandy was an outstanding cook and was known for her delicious homemade yeast rolls, which she learned to make from her mother. She loved to play cards and enjoyed spending time playing with seniors at the Washington Park Family Center. Sandy was excellent with budgeting and managing her household. She provided loving guidance and encouragement to many. She was genuine, a great listener and always available for a good conversation. She believed in keeping her mind active and enjoyed watching Jeopardy and playing Scrabble, Words with Friends, and Wordscapes.
Sandy departed this life on October 4, 2024. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Flora Waters; son, Darren Brown; siblings, Michael Waters, Kathleen Waters, Richard Waters and Ronald Waters.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories; her daughter, Cheryn Holmes (Tommy) and son, Robert Brown Jr.; grandsons, Tommy Holmes Jr. and Christopher Holmes; siblings, Jacqueline Bunch, Deborah Martin, Linda Morris, Stephen Waters and Andrea Denise Walker (Virgil), as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Sandy will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, IN 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sandy's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
