Ronald Lamar Cooper, 72, of Indianapolis passed away on the morning of Thursday, December 16th, 2021 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born in Richmond, Indiana on August 12, 1949, a son of Clyde and Elizabeth (Ross) Cooper, both predeceased.
Ron graduated an honor student from Richmond High School before attending Howard University. He was a proud member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He served honorably in the U.S. Army, stationed in Neu-Ulm, Germany as a PTS Operator for the Pershing Missile. He earned the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He spent 40 years in food service franchise management before retiring in 2013. Ron loved to cook, spend time with his grandchildren and serve others.
Ron is survived by his wife of 46 years, Karen (Grimes) Cooper of Indianapolis; his two sons, Shane (Teresa) Cooper and Eric (Anna) Cooper; grandchildren, Olivia, Jaxson and Dominick; his brothers and sisters, Joyce Spicer, Jeanne (Joe) Mazell, Cheryl Cooper, Byron (Gisela) Cooper, Michael (Coquese) Cooper, M. Brent (Illa) Cooper, and Schaune Cooper; cousin Kenneth (Duchonna) Briggs and several other cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ron will be interred in the Veteran’s Section at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN, with a private graveside gathering. A Celebration of Life will follow in the spring for all to attend. Details will be shared when available.
