Robert A. Van Horn

Robert A. Van Horn, 75 years, 1 month and 18 days entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. He was born to Carrie Mae Van Horn and JD Crosby. Robert was raised by his grandparents; Enoche and Effie Van Horn. He spent the first 10 years of his life in Detroit, Michigan before the family relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana. During his early teens, Robert accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior of his life and was baptized by Rev. Arthur Johnson at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. As a young man Robert was very industrious and always looked for jobs to earn money; he delivered newspapers, worked as busboy, a dishwasher and even ran errands for neighbors. While these jobs kept him busy they did not deter him from his love of playing sports. Robert was an avid basketball player and became more entrenched in the game as his height grew to over 6’0’ tall. He played basketball and football during his high school years at his Alma Mater, Wood High School. Robert was a proud graduate of the class of 1965 of Harry E. Wood High School. Robert would go on to unite with Shirley Ann Gaddie in Holy Matrimony. Of their 18 year union, they would welcome four beautiful children. Robert expressed his interest in spreading the word of God and decided to attend Indiana Baptist College in Greenwood, Indiana. Years later, on September 5, 2003 he married Doris Jean Troutman, with whom he would spend the remainder of his years with. Robert served as Associate Minister and Sunday School Teacher at the Rushing Mighty Wind Baptist Church until his health started to decline. Robert retired after 35 years and 1 month career at General Motors – Delco Electronics Systems and Delphi. Robert was preceded into glory by his grandparents, mother, father, brothers; Aaron and Barron, sister Yvonne. He is survived by his wife Doris Van Horn, 4 living children; Dietra (Mark) Dupree, Renee Van Horn-Jackson, Robert(Deatra) Van Horn, and Anthony (Jacqueline) Van Horn. 3 stepsons; Ronald Jorman, Dewayne Jones, Ricky Jorman, brother Darryl Floyd of Daytona Beach, Florida, sister Geraldine (Willie) Garrett, 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
