Richard loved the Lord and understood the importance of keeping Him central to his life. He truly believed the Lord was with him at all times. He attended Indianapolis Public Schools and graduated from George Washington High School.
Richard was academically talented as a very young child, often making straight A’s. His love for education and sports was passed down to his kids. He’s affectionately known for how much he loved his children. If he was available and able to, he’d attended all their games to cheer them on and would sometimes coach. Richard was a fierce protector of his family and all those he loved. He was also a charitable person; he would give his last dime never expecting anything in return. Richard would bring energy and life to any gathering, and everyone felt special in his presence. He was confident and resolute in all he endeavored to do. His inviting spirit drew many from different backgrounds and life experiences.
Richard worked for AT&T and was a dedicated associate. In his time there he gained the reputation of always having a positive and can-do attitude. His smile made his colleagues’ day, and his customers loved him, which showed in his reviews.
Richard was everybody’s big brother. It would be nothing for him to call you out of the blue to make sure you were okay and had what you needed. Even around the neighborhood, he often encouraged the youth to get their education, stay on track and stay out of trouble. He had a special way of motivating others toward excellence and success. He never took excuses, he felt that was the easy way out and would remind you that nothing comes without challenges. It is how you persevere through it that matters.
Richard was preceded in death by his loving brother Odell Berry, Jr., his grandparents Edward & Madie White, Lillie M Berry, Ozella White, Pete & Bessie Lanier.
