Obituary of Richard E. Neal
Richard Edward Neal, 96, of Indianapolis passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022. He was born June 28, 1925 in Madison, IN to the late Jacob and Mabel Neal. He graduated from Madison High School in Madison, IN and attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City, MO before earning his bachelor’s degree in 1950 from Hanover College in Hanover, IN. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Richard served his country in WWII with the Army Combat Engineers in ETO. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Victors Medal and was a current member of the American Legion. He was invited to go to Washington DC on the Honor Flight on April 4, 2015. Richard’s career spanned 44 years in the investment business. He started with Merrill Lynch then served in managerial posts with other firms, including President of Wildman, Neal & Debolt from 1963-1979. He retired as executive VP of City Securities in 1996. He was a past member of the Board of Governors Midwest Stock Exchange from 1989 to 1992 and the District Business Conduct Committee of National Association Securities Dealers. He was a member of the Indianapolis Stock and Bond Club and was past president and Member of the Year 1990. Dick served on the Board of Directors of Anacomp and served on the Board of American Underwriters Insurance Association and was selected to serve as an arbitration panel on the securities board. Richard served as Trustee Emeritus Hanover College and on the Board of Trustees from 1970–1994. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, former member of the Twin Lakes Golf Club, member of the Chairman’s Circle of the Oxford Club and Service Club. Dick was past president of the Overlook Condominium Association, former member of the Indianapolis Athletic Club and a member of their squash teams. Richard is survived by his wife, of 72 years, Florence Olin Neal; son, Richard L. (Monica) Neal; grandsons, Wesley L. Neal and Jay Neal; great grandchildren Blake, Lilly, Carly , Annabelle and Karma Neal. Four great great grandchildren also survive. Richard and Flo loved to travel the world but family was their most enjoyable time. Family and friends will gather at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel on Tuesday January 18, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with service to follow.
