Philip married the late Emma Larkin in 1949; they had (3) children, Philip Wharton, Jr. Peggy Simmons Bryant, and Elaine Wharton. In 1954 Philip relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana.
Philip worked for IU University Hospital as a medical surgery technician for (7) years from 1955 -1962. Later Philip would change occupations and for the next 27 years worked for the Jenn-Air Corp. retiring in 1989.
Philip was baptized In Jesus name and received the gift of the Holy Ghost on February 4, 1976 at Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Assembly. Brother Philip was known to be a faithful worker. He served in many capacities. Brother Philip was the assistant brotherhood chairman and treasurer for many years; he also sung in the choir, drove the church bus and served in the kitchen. Brother Philip loved the word of GOD. He regularly attended bible class, Sunday school and church services.
In 2003, brother and Sister Wharton moved their membership to Grace Apostolic. Brother Philip would continue his service. He was the chairman of the Grace church monitors for many years, taught Sunday school and was a member of the brotherhood.
On March 26, 1995 Philip married Sis. Delores Johnson. They would spend many happy and devoted years together only to be interrupted by Philip going home to be with the LORD.
Brother Philip's favorite verse was Psalm 34:6. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
Brother Philip Chester Wharton will be missed. Those that remain to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife Sister Delores Wharton, son, Philip Wharton Jr. (Carol), Nashville, TN; daughters, Elaine Wharton, Philadelphia, PA and Peggy Simmons (Bryant), Pittsburgh, PA; stepson, Anthony B. Johnson (Kelly) of Indianapolis, IN and Stepdaughter, Crystal Johnson of Nashville, TN; 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, saints and friends.
