Philip Donald "Phil" Kennedy, age 85, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Phil was born January 25, 1936, in Indianapolis to the late John Donald and Evelyn (Grandstaff) Kennedy.
Phil studied engineering at Rose Polytechnic Institute (now Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology) where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
A successful businessman, Phil started his own television repair business and later became co-owner of Kennedy Hardware, manufacturing, wholesaling, and retailing reproduction hardware for antique furniture. He was an author and technical editor for Howard W. Sams, writing and editing books and schematics on television repair. He also worked on technical publications for Hurco Mfg. Co.. Later on, he wrote the best seller Hoosier Cabinets. He enjoyed writing and sharing his knowledge with others.
As a younger man, Phil obtained his pilot's license and enjoyed flying his airplane. He also enjoyed fishing and loved to take fishing trips in Wisconsin.
Phil is survived by his wife of 59 years, Phyllis (Wheatley) Kennedy; siblings Larry Kennedy, Jane Finn, Lynda Bates, and Kathy Jones; his son Mike Kennedy and daughter-in-law Lynn; his grandchildren Brandon, Allie and Erin; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mary Lynn Gaughan.
A visitation for Phil will be held Tuesday, November 9, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel, 740 East 86th St, Indianapolis, Indiana. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Leppert Mortuary – Nora, with Rev. C. Davies Reed, officiating.
