Patrick (Pat) J. Moriarty 89, died peacefully on September 2, at St. Paul Hermitage, Beech Grove Indiana where Pat had resided from 2004. Born May 13, 1931, Pat grew up in Sneem, Co. Kerry, Ireland before immigrating to the United States in 1949. Pat became a citizen of the United States and served as a Merchant Marine on the Great Lakes and served in the US Marine Corps. For 29 years Pat served as an Indianapolis fire fighter and worked at Jenn-Air Corporation. Pat retired from the Indianapolis fire department and served as an Indiana State deputy fire marshal for over eleven years. Once in America, Pat met the love of his life Margaret L. (Potvin) Moriarty of Conneaut, Ohio. Margaret was a nurse working in Conneaut who cared for Pat before they were married on April 14, 1952. They eventually settled in Indianapolis, IN, where they reared nine children on the city's Eastside (St. Therese of the Little Flower Parish). Children include: Denis J. (Antje) Moriarty of Los Angeles, CA, Michael B. Moriarty, John F. (Lori) Moriarty, Brian L. Moriarty, Therese B. (Dave) Brandon, Thomas D. Moriarty, and Very Rev, Joseph B. Moriarty. Pat was the proud loving grandfather of ten grandchildren: Tim (Brienne), Andrew, Ryan, Elizabeth (Libby), Kristian, Katie, Hannah and Conor Moriarty, Eamonn Brandon and Caitlin (Jared) Byczko.
Pat was the proud great-grandfather of Ismay Mary Byczko and Abel Joseph James Moriarty. Pat is survived by a brother, Denis Moriarty (Indianapolis) and two brothers and two sisters in Ireland and England. Pat will be remembered for his signature cigar, and as a larger-than-life jovial Irishman who was proud of his Irish heritage, his Catholic Faith and his family legacy. As a loving father , devoted husband, and a diligent worker Pat sought to love God in all things. He is preceded in death by his parents Patrick and Bridie Moriarty (Sheehan), his loving wife of 59 years Margaret L. Moriarty, son Patrick T. Moriarty, daughters Eileen Moriarty and Mary B. Moriarty/Adams. Visitation will take place Little Flower Catholic Church beginning at 4pm September 11, 2020 and concluding with a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Little Flower Catholic Church at 10:30 am Saturday September 12, 2020. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery immediately following the funeral Mass. Memorial contributions in Pat's name may be made to Bishop Simon Brute College Seminary at bishopsimonbrute.org. Both at the visitation and at the funeral Mass the family is requesting mask wearing and social distancing.
