Obituary of Milton "Devon" Miller
Milton Devon Miller, age 86, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Devon was born in LaGrange County, Indiana to Roy R. and Bertha (Zimmerman) Miller. After high school, Devon earned a Bachelor’s degree from Goshen College and went on to teach Business at Bethany High School. Devon did 1-W service at Indiana University Hospitals where he became interested in medical records. He later obtained a Master's Degree and a second Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and taught in the Medical Records program there. Devon was a dedicated manager of the central dictation service of University Hospitals Medical Records and Associate Professor at the Indiana University School of Allied Health Sciences before retirement. Devon and Margaret cherished 59 years of marriage. Devon chose First Mennonite as his church family and relished his time on the Fellowship Committee. Devon was an early riser who loved to garden, bake, and cook. He had a passion for growing beautiful roses and had 46 rose bushes at one point. Devon loved music. His instruments were the clarinet, organ, piano, recorder, and violin. He spent countless hours listening to and playing music, even working at the Indianapolis Symphony to attend as many concerts as possible. He shared his passion for music with his boys, sacrificing much time and effort to make sure they had opportunities to develop their own talents. He prioritized family connections through frequent phone calls and traveling to attend gatherings. Devon is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Alice (Rensberger) Miller; children, Milton II “Chip”, Mitchell (Amina), Michael “Mickey” (Stacy), Martin “Marty”; grandchildren, Alyssa, Adelaide, Nadia, Alia; and sister, Dolores Weaver. He was preceded in death by his parents; Brothers, Richard, Roland, Gerald; Sisters, Wanetta Christener, Gwenda Eash. A memorial service for Devon will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 2 PM at First Mennonite Church, 4601 Knollton Road, Indianapolis, IN 46228. Memorial contributions may be made to: First Mennonite Church or Indiana University School of Medicine scholarship fund.
