Michael Joseph Feeney
24 October, 1948 – 24 January, 2024
IN THE CARE OF
Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary
It is with heavy and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Michael J. Feeney, born on October 24, 1948 in Indianapolis to the late Harry J. and Evelyn (Seal) Feeney. He went home to heaven January 24, 2024.
Mike was born and raised in Indianapolis. He was a proud graduate of the first graduating class at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory High School 1966 alongside some very special lifelong friends. He met Mary, the love of his life and best friend, at the mere age of 16. He graduated from Indiana University in 1970 with a degree in business. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Mike and Mary married on June 27, 1970. Mike was a Lieutenant in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam war. He returned to raise his family and work alongside his dad, Harry and his brother in law Mike Hornak as a funeral director at Feeney-Hornak Mortuaries. Walking people through grief was his super power. He was involved in local politics and loved serving his community. He never knew a stranger and had a knack for making everyone feel special. He was Development Officer at Cathedral High School and following that he worked in development at the Village of Merici. It was his greatest joy helping people give their money away to causes close to his heart. Mike was a founder of the Starfish Initiative where he served on the board of directors. He always kept God first then family then golf. Oh how he loved the game of golf. He had 4 holes-in-one but he was most proud of his talented wife, his children, and his nine grandchildren.
Mike was the best son, husband, father, brother and friend a person could ask for. He valued his faith and family above everything and taught by example what it means to be there for each other. He loved with his whole heart and had a humor that kept everyone laughing. He had a joke memorized for any situation.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Harry J. and Evelyn Feeney his brother Martin “Tom” (Diane) Feeney and brother-in-law Rick Webster. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Micheli Feeney, daughter Kellyn Donnelly (Sean), son Ryan (Shannon) Feeney, and son Luke (Laura) Feeney, and his nine grandchildren Maura, Tommy, and Bridget Donnelly; Emma, Carson, and Addison Feeney; Rilee, Reese, and Quinn Feeney and his sisters Mary Lou (Mike) Hornak and Patricia Webster as well as many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Mike will be held from 3:00pm - 7:00pm on Tuesday, January 30th at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30am on Wednesday, January 31st at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Private inurnment will be at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Mike's name to Village of Merici and Starfish Initiative.
