Mary Lou Klein was born in Indianapolis on December 28, 1940 to Thomas A. Lysaght and Grace Eleanor Geraghty Lysaght , the oldest of their two daughters, Mary Lou and Jane. Mary Lou attended St Agnes Academy until 1958 and later graduated Indiana University where she was a Kappa Delta. She went on to graduate from Indiana University School of Nursing in 1962 where she would later meet Robert J. Klein. Soon after meeting Mary Lou and R. J. were married February on 20, 1965.
Mary Lou started her nursing career working for Dr James Belt, and soon after had two beautiful children Stacia L Klein and Robert J Klein Jr. Mary Lou found great love and satisfaction raising her two children and being a dedicated mother. She still had time to be President of the Christamore Aid Society, President of St Margaret’s Guild, and a member of Stansfield Circle. She was a long time member of both Meridian Hills County Club and Florida’s Mirasol County Club. Mary Lou and R.J. won the coveted Mr & Mrs Golf Tournament in 1993 which earned Mary Lou being the Chairman of the event the following year. She was an avid golfer and tennis player and enjoyed playing Bridge and Canasta.
Mary Lou and two partners later started Grand Champion Tack & Saddlery which quickly became one of the largest tack shops in the mid-west.
Mary Lou loved being a mother and it showed with the time she spent going to horse shows and athletic events. She spent countless hours in the car with her children going from one event to another. Those important hours would lead to educate her children and guide them through life so they could navigate what lies ahead.
Mary Lou and R. J. started R. J. Klein and Associates in 1968 and R.J. went on to have a very successful business as a builder, designer, and developer. Mary Lou and R.J. spent hours talking about business ideas and strategies. This was all made possible because of the unwavering support as a wife and business partner.
Mary Lou also loved being a grandmother to Phoebe E. Klein, Tessa L Klein, and Jude A Klein. She was affectionately known as Grandma Lou by these loving grandchildren. Mary Lou loved all the grandchildren and passed on wisdom and knowledge so they to would be able to navigate what lies ahead. Mary Lou spent lots of time with her grandchildren, and those are memories her grandchildren will cherish for life.
Mary Lou leaves behind her husband R. J. Klein, her sister Jane Keller, her daughter Stacia Klein Madden, her son Rob Klein and daughter in-law Nicole and her grandchildren Phoebe, Tessa, and Jude Klein. Mary Lou will always be remembered as the rock of the family. Mary Lou was always poised, elegant and supportive for all those who needed her.
