IN THE CARE OF
Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery
Mary Lee Dobbins passed away July 23, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She was born August 12, 1940, one of twelve children of Isaac and Susie Rhone. Mary grew up on her family’s farm in Uniontown Alabama. She attended Perry County Training School (High School), where she was quite the athlete in track and field. She was also a majorette.
After graduation, Mary worked in an Oka factory until she moved to Indianapolis with her parents. Upon arrival in Indianapolis, Mary worked for Western Electric where she made telephones until it closed in 1984.
Mary later found her true love, Kenneth Dobbins. They were married for more than 40 years prior to Kenneth passing away in 2017. Mary would say one of her greatest accomplishments was serving as a wife, a homemaker, and raising her son, Preston Rhone, with unwavering love and dedication. Mary was also the caregiver for her mother. She treasured keeping her mother company and comfortable during her final years.
Mary had several hobbies; she played the drums, the harp and the harmonica. Mary also had a passion for collecting antiques and dolls. Among her doll collection includes two of the original Cabbage Patch dolls. Mary loved displaying her doll collection and antiques in her home so that all who visited could enjoy. Mary loved her family unconditionally and would host the family holiday dinners. Her home proved to be a place where laughter rang free, and memories were cherished.
As we mourn the physical loss of Mary, we find solace in knowing that her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched. Her kindness, and unyielding love will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege to call her family or friend.
Mary is survived by her sisters, Jessie B. McKinney and Rebecca Sandy, stepchildren, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and many extended family.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Dobbins; son, Preston Rhone; sisters: Bertha Mae Smith, Dolores Daffin, Dorothy Lockett, Evelyn Woods, Susie Rhone as well as her brothers: Wille, Clarence, Isaac, and Sydney Rhone.
A graveside service for Mary will be held Friday, August 9, 2024 at 12:30 PM at Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208.
