Mary Jane Chastain, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5th, with her beloved husband of 59 years, Larry Chastain, by her side. Mary was born on August 8th, 1942, in Sheridan, Indiana, to John and Evelyn McCory. She is survived by her siblings Tom McCory of Ft. Wayne, Dick McCory of Nineveh, and Sally Leeper of Avon.
Mary graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1960 and married Larry on August 16th, 1963, in Indianapolis. Together, they raised three sons, Matthew Chastain of Seattle, Mark Chastain (wife Angie) of Speedway, and Jon Chastain (wife Kim) of Brownsburg. Mary was also blessed with four grandchildren, Gracie, Kadence, Luke, and Macy.
Mary was known for her kind heart, infectious laugh, and gentle toughness. She was an active member of Kingsway Christian Church, where she led several ministry teams over the years. Mary also spent several decades as a member of Chapel Rock Christian Church, leading the youth groups. She spent years working at Indiana State Police, Allison Transmission, American Trans Air.
When she wasn't volunteering her time, drinking coffee with friends, or at church, Mary loved to visit with her kids and grandkids, attending their concerts, dances, and games. She enjoyed traveling and camping, especially visiting national parks and mountains. Mary was a fan of Purdue sports (always) and the Colts and Pacers (when they were good).
Please join us in celebrating Mary's life on Friday, May 12th, from 5:00 pm until 7:30 pm at Kingsway Christian Church (7981 E County Road 100 N, Avon IN, 46123). A short service will follow at 7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, Mary requested that you consider a donation to a charity she supported with her own time and money over the years.
