Obituary of Marilynn Teater Smith
Marilynn Lee (Teater) Smith passed away in her home on Thursday, April 18, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born at Ft. Knox, Kentucky May 2, 1945. She is survived by her beloved fiancé Frank Green of Indianapolis; her daughters Denise Lorine (Thomas) Valkyrie; Sarah Renee Rogers both of Bloomington, Indiana; and son Allen David Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana; her brother William (Jill) Teater, Colorado; and sister Sharon Sue (Teater) Harvey, Indiana; ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and cousins who she adored. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert Elliott Teater and Virginia Ann (Covington) Teater and granddaughter Patricia Lynn Rogers. Marilynn attended Indianapolis Public School #43, was a 1963 graduate of Beech Grove High School and was active in the alumni association there. She played saxophone in the Marching Hornets and was active in Girl Scouts and Job’s Daughters. She attended Indiana University Extension campus 1963, Indiana University Bloomington 1963-64, and IUPUI where she played in the Jaguars first pep band and studied nursing. After a career as a phlebotomist, she retired from Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis. She was a cancer survivor and volunteer with the Susan G. Komen Foundation. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, studying her bible, meeting regularly with her alumni group and spending time with her family. Marilynn remembered her family, teachers, friends, and mentors fondly on Memorial Day each year, dressing their resting places with flowers. She was a long-time member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church. Please join her family as they celebrate her life, on May 2, 2024, Memorial Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, with the Funeral Service at 12:00 PM at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 6630 Southeastern Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46203. Marilynn will rest in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 1977 State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana 46143 with her beloved mother and father. Donations also may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer.
