Obituary of Marilyn H. White
Marilyn H. White lived a beautiful and fulfilling life. Marilyn was born in Columbus, MS on September 11, 1928 to George and Ruth Horton. Marilyn matriculated through the Columbus MS Union Academy and Hunt High School where she finished 2nd in her graduating class. Marilyn elected to attend Tuskegee and Butler University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Education and, Masters in Education. During her work career, Marilyn spent time as an educator at Public School #41, Vice Principal at Crispus Attucks Junior High School and Public School #61. Marilyn met and married John W. White Sr. while attending Tuskegee University. As a part of this loving union, they welcomed children, John W. White Jr. and Gregory W. White. She also became the doting grandmother to Ashley White Randolph and the great grandmother to Ashley’s sons, John and Juan. Marilyn was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church where she assisted with church activities and children programs. Over the period of working with the Indianapolis Public Schools, many children benefited from Marilyn’s attentive, caring and leadership teaching style. Marilyn was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Additionally, Marilyn was the eldest of nine children whom she assisted most of them in furthering their education or providing a residence to stay early in their lives. Marilyn memories will be cherished by sons, John White Jr., Gregory W. White both of Indianapolis, granddaughter Ashley White Randolph (Joshua ) of New Orleans, LA and great grandchildren John and Juan of New Orleans. She also leaves behind a brother Carl Horton and sister, Barbara Woodard of Indianapolis, and a host of extended family members and friends. Marilyn established a legacy of helping others that had not been given a fair opportunity in life. Marilyn enjoyed family gatherings and appreciated news of achievements including graduations, milestones and new heights accomplished. Whether it was hosting the celebration of New Year’s or a family or friends birthday, these were common occasions that Marilyn found joy in sponsoring. These spirited and uplifting events will be missed, but Marilyn will never be forgotten!
