Madelene Elizabeth Stewart was born in Indianapolis Indiana on January 29,1942. She attended Indianapolis Public Schools, Elder W, Diggs, # 42. She accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age. While attending High School Madelene developed an interest in Psychology, which she continued at IUPUI, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Mikki, Matt Slatt, Maddy, all names she responded to during her life, was known as a gregarious affectionate, loving and generous person who often placed others first. Whether it was a family member, co-worker or friend she would frequently put their desires above her own. The evidence of this is shown in her willingness to allow many persons to share her house, her car, her table, and her biological family. If it was a holiday, they simply joined the family festivities. Her works helping her fellow believers and non-believers is legendary.
Madelene had many passions and interests. One special interest was what we called "Talk Therapy". If you had a problem, she was always willing to listen until a reasonable solution was determined. She hosted many of these sessions at her home serving large quantities of food and beverages to all those attending. She could be somewhat of a "foodie".
Oh, how she loved music, usually sharing that passion with Stew, the big brother of the family. She could sing like Aretha, Mother Shanks, (her grandmother), Mahalia Jackson, and Nancy Wilson.
Madelene wrote poetry and also memorized esteemed poets. Kipling and Dickinson were two of her favorites. She regularly studied the Psalms.
Growing flowers and working in and around the yard brought excitement during Spring and Early Summer. Hosta plants were one of her favorites, along with tulips.
Madelene's work career included the Internal Revenue Service before she joined the United States Postal Service from which she retired after a career spanning thirty-five years. Her final job classification was in Logistics.
Madelene was preceded into Glory by her mother Sister Katheryn L. Parks, a brother Elder Van E, Parks, (wife Toni) and a nephew Tilford Stewart, (wife Freda).
She will be missed by her sister Betty L. Stewart Craig, sister Phyllis K. Stewart Scott, brother Richard D. Stewart, brother Thomas L. Parks (wife Deborah), nephews Eric Stewart (Anna), Lon Stewart (wife Tanisha), Sherman Craig and niece Kathy L. Scott.
