Mrs. Lillian McElwain Eaton was born on April 9,1925 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lillian was born to Clarence T. McElwain and Cynthia Flenoigh McElwain whom both have preceded her in death. Lillian was united in holy matrimony for fifty years to the late Emanuel Eaton. During their union they had 7 daughters 2 of which have preceded her in death. Lillian attended school #42 and Crispus Attucks High School.
Mother Eaton excepted Christ at an early age. She was Baptized at Beluah Baptist (Promise Land) where she served faithfully. Later she joined Emmanuel Freewill Baptist. Over her 40 plus years Mother Eaton served as the President of the Mother's Board, President over the Pastor Aide, a Trustee, an Usher, and she worked faithfully with the Youth. Mother Eaton was a member and faithfully attended the District, Annual, and General of the Western Division of the Freewill Baptist Inc. Conferences. Mother Eaton served as President and Vice President for the Usher Board of the General Conference.
Lillian worked many years as cook at Sheppard Pharmacy. She also worked temporarily at Commercial Towel until her retirement. For the last 37 years she was a homemaker and enjoyed many activities. She enjoyed decorating her yard and house for every season and holidays, but her favorite holiday to decorate was Christmas. Lillian enjoyed traveling and cruising with her husband, daughters, and their spouses. In the summers, she loved to go camping with family and friends. She was an honorary member of NAARVA (National African American RV Association), and the Indiana Souljourners. She stayed ready to go. She was known as "MOM" to many of the club members.
At every family gathering, MOMMA cared the most and to know that everyone was comfortable and happy. She loved cooking for her family. Her signature dishes were her potato salad, spaghetti, and cornbread dressing. MOMMY loved hosting an annual Fall Bonfire for her family and at her home. At Family gatherings, GRANDMA was known for her famous quote "Is Everybody Happy?!" Her nephews, nieces and cousins would often check in on their AUNT LILLIAN. LILLIAN was matriarch for the McElwain Family and Eaton Family.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Emanuel Eaton, daughters Arlene Eaton, and Laura M. Ray. Siblings Bernice Eaton, Grace Griffie, Dorothy France, Reginald McElwain, Jesse McElwain, and Clarence McElwain, and two sons in law Paul R. Hooks and Xavier T. Poindexter.
Mother Lillian leaves to cherish her memory daughters; Cynthia (Arthur) Rascoe, Mary Frye, Emma Hooks, Ernestine Poindexter, Darlene (David) Vann, twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, twenty-one great-great grandchildren, and a Cousin Elizabeth Campbell. Lillian also leaves to cherish her loving pet and companion Romeo (Mario) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
