Died April 12, 2016 in Indianapolis following a lengthy, and courageously contested, illness. He was 81.
A big man to start, Joe was always larger than life to those who knew and loved him.
He was born November 19, 1934 in Garden City, NY to the late Joseph G. and Lillian A. (Moran) Bill, Sr.
He attended Notre Dame University on a football scholarship, gaining a degree in Political Science in 1956. His love for the "Fighting Irish" would be life-long.
Joe worked for Continental Insurance Co., and then for Steel Parts Corporation as Vice President of Sales for 32 years, retiring in 1994. Joe was a dedicated husband and loving family man who in retirement spent every possible moment with his children and grandchildren. He was equally devoted to his church family at Christ the King Catholic Church, serving on committees, singing in the choir and volunteering for countless opportunities to help others. He was an advocate of children and fostered the development of hundreds of youth in the Indianapolis area through sport. He served as chaplain of Bishop Chatard Football, and coached CYO football and basketball for over 60 years receiving numerous awards for his commitment on the field and court. His love of football introduced him to hundreds of lifelong relationships that carried him through the years. His devotion to faith, family and sport inspired others to emulate his attitudes and spirit.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Grace R. Bill; brother, Robert E. Bill and granddaughter, Jessie L. Stair. He is survived by his children, Joseph J. Bill, Molly B. (Bob) Rondeau, Jude E. (Colleen) Bill, Brian J. (Carla) Bill and Glenn J. (Colleen) Bill; brother and best friend Michael M. (Sharon) Bill; sister-in-law, Joyce Bill; grandchildren, Angelina E. & Gracie C. Bill, Jordan J. (Christine) Stair, Lorrin D. Rondeau, Martha C., Maggie A. & Jude A. Bill, Brook N. & Sean T. Munger, Brittany M. (Colten) Mitchell, Anthony G., Alex G., and Chris G. Bill; great-grandchildren, Joseph G., Dominic C. & Zachary R. Stair and a host of grateful friends and players.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 19th at Christ the King Catholic Church. Entombment follows at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. There will be a celebration of Life for Coach Bill at The Knights of Columbus from 3:30pm- 6:30pm
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to: Christ the King Catholic Church or to Catholic Youth Organization.
