John Bernard Bales Jr.

John Bernard Bales Jr of Indianapolis, IN born April 14, 1946 passed away on October 3, 2022 surrounded by his family. John married the love of his life Elizabeth on January 17,1976. John was a retired Master Sargent in the Indiana National Guard as well as a retired Police Officer from the Indianapolis Police Department as a member of the Motorcycle Unit. John belonged to the American Legion along with the Fraternal Order of Police. John was an avid motorcycle lover and rider. As a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association John alongside his wife Libby spent abundance of time riding their motorcycle and traveling the country. John’s hobbies included watching and playing golf, watching all the NASCAR Races, and his beloved Indianapolis Colts. Many of Saturdays you could find John at the Tom’s Barber Shop drinking coffee and eating donuts with his friends. John was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where he was a proud member of the church choir. John was preceded in death by his parents John and Novella Bales, his mother and father-in-law Margaret Younger Cabell and John Walker Cabell, Peter & Karen Cabell, Steve Walters and Jonathan McLerran. John is survived by his wife Elizabeth, daughters Amanda and Susan Strickland (Richard), sons Jeff (Trish) and David, grandchildren Tiffany, Robert, Gavin, Jakob, Alek, Zack, Kassie, Katlin, and his great grandson Kohen. Along with Johns immediate family he is survived by his extended family including 3 sister in laws and 4 brother in laws along with many nieces and nephews. Services for John will be held at Little & Sons Funeral Home, 4901 E. Stop 11 Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46237. Visitation will be held Monday October 10, 2022 from 10am-1pm with the service to immediately follow at the funeral home. Burial will be at Washington Park East in Indianapolis immediately following the funeral service with military rites.
