Gerald Earl “Jerry” Smith, 78, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away peacefully Saturday January 31, 2015 surrounded by his two children and wife of 55 years.
He was born to the late Helen and Earl Smith in Indianapolis, Indiana August 4, 1936. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1954 and from Xavier University in 1958. He was a member of the Xavier rifle team. He then married Mary Kay Sprague on August 29, 1959. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1960.
Jerry was employed by VanAusdall and Farrar for 28 years during which time he was a Salesman, Sales Manager, and finishing his career as Executive Vice President. He was the owner of Midwest Vinyl Window Products for 8 years. He was a member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of the Southwest Florida Yacht Club.
Jerry was devoted to his wife, Kay, his family and countless friends. Jerry had a passion for upland bird hunting, boating, fishing, and his many loyal hunting dogs. He also loved water and snow skiing and traveling throughout the United States and abroad. He will be remembered for his zest for life and adventurous spirit. He had an infectious smile and was kind to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Kay, their 2 children: Julie Smith Kahn, Mike Smith and wife Tina, 5 grandchildren: Catherine Kahn, Christopher Kahn, Carter Kahn, Brooke Smith, Blake Smith, and his is brother David Smith. Jerry is preceded in death by his sisters Janice Beck and Carolyn Kincannon.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, February 9, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 10655 Haverstick Rd. Carmel, IN 46033. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 4-7 pm at Feeney Hornak Mortuary 2126 East 71st, Indianapolis, IN 46220, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm.
