87, of Indianapolis, departed this life Sunday, May 14,, 2023. Jim was born December 6, 1935 in Indianapolis to the late J. Frank & Dorothy (Fife) Ries. He was a graduate of Thornton Township High School, in Harvey, IL and then earned his degree in Industrial Management from Purdue University in 1959.
Jim had owned and operated Ries Equipment for 25 years and then owned Microvote.
As a devoted alumni, Jim loved all things Purdue. He loved following all Purdue Athletics and was very active with the John Purdue Club where he had served as an officer. He was a kind and gentle soul who had enjoyed many walks on the beaches of his second home on Marco Island. Jim was happiest though, making memories with his family and friends. Jim loved all animals but was particularly fond of dogs. He was often quoted saying “Those who teach us the most about humanity aren't always human".
Jim was also a former member of St. Pius X, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and recently, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Churches.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Constance "Connie" Rae (Zeitner) Ries and dear sister, Joan McDaniel.
He is survived by his loving children, Jim (Lisa) Ries, Susie (Mark) Herrmann and John Ries; grateful grandchildren, Brady (Kali) Herrmann, Whitney (Conor) McGinnis, Tory (Kyle) Langhammer, Aly (Reed) McLaughlin and Jacob Ries, as well as five great grand-children, with one on the way and a host of old dear friends.
