Obituary of James J. May
91, of Indianapolis died February 3, 2017. He was born to Lawrence and Theresa (Hayden) May on February 11, 1925 in Indianapolis. He was an airplane engine architect for Allison Transmission for 36 years. James served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. He was an integral part of the invasion of Leyte in The Philippines where he received a purple heart. He was a founding member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. James is preceded in death by his wife Betty May, brother Bill (Joyce) May, and sister Beverly (Bill) Abel. He is survived by his brothers Bob (Yvonne) May, Tom (Ann) May, children Lisa (Stan) Kolakowski, Charles M. May, granddaughters Jennifer (Nick) Faires, Katie Kolakowski, Samantha May, great grandchildren Camryn, Charlotte, and Cashton Faires. James will be remembered as a devoted family man who was a great and loving friend to all. He was an avid Indianapolis 500 racing fan. James had a great love for his home state of Indiana and was always proud to call himself a “Hoosier”. Visitation for James will be Saturday, February 11th from 10 – 11 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11 a.m. Father Jim Farrell will officiate. Entombment will be at Oaklawn Memorial Garden. Memorials in James’s name may be made to the Catholic Relief Services. Services entrusted to Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary.
