Gladys “Gayle” Gibson Stogner Dunn 85
April 24, 1935 to October 17, 2020
Gayle loved her Lord and church family, her friends, and life in general. She was known for her smiles more than anything else. She was a kind and gentle soul, willing to help and befriend anyone, but she could also make sure that people knew just how she felt about something if the need arose.
In her 50s, she decided to become a nurse, something she had started out of high school, but in “those days” she said that you could not be in nurses training and be married. She wanted to get married. She thought she would finish what she had started, and got her LPN, even speaking at her graduation. We were very proud of her. She worked at St. Vincent Hospital until she retired.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. There was nothing better than a family get together.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Gibson and Gladys Herbert Gibson; her husband, Jack Dunn; daughter, Pieri Lynn Stogner; and a great grandson, Roland Daniel Hoffman. Four of her five siblings are deceased: Ruth Wilson, Ralph “Bud” Gibson, Blanche Emery, and Patricia Ashbaugh. Donna Abell is the surviving sister. She was also preceded in death by her friend and father of her children, Doug Stogner.
Her family tree continues through daughter, Corinne “Cori” (Daniel) Catellier; and son, Mat (Cathy) Stogner. Grandson, Damian Stogner with great grandson, Lincoln Bradley; grandson, Derek (Katie) Catellier with great granddaughters, Audrey and Clara Catellier; grandson, Devin (Kyla) Catellier with great granddaughters, Kairi and Khloe’ Bunn; granddaughter, Cadra (Brian) Catellier Hoffman with great granddaughter, Ali Morrow, and great grandsons, Liam, Oxlee, and Hobbes Hoffman; and grandson Kole Stogner with great grandson, Tatum Stogner.
Her family included James Brown and children Jimmy, Dina, Tina, and Scott, who were very important in her life. She was also blessed to share time with Jack’s sons Jim and Bob and their families.
A big thank you to cousins LeeAnn and Kathy for helping to make sure we could get our mothers together almost every month for nearly two years before the quarantine began.
One last word of thanks to Hetti Pous, our stepmother, for being a good friend to mom and a beloved part of the family.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 4pm at First Baptist Church of Greenwood, 99 West Main St. Greenwood, IN 46142 with visitation prior beginning at 2pm.
