Obituary of George McBride Hoster Jr.
George McBride Hoster Jr., age 87, died at home in Carmel, IN on Monday, November 8, 2021. George was born February 1, 1934 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Marie Wagnon Hoster and George McBride Hoster, Sr. His siblings, Joan Hoster DeVoe (Chuck-deceased) and Steve Hoster (Jane), were an important part of both his childhood and later in life as their families expanded. George graduated from Shortridge High School in 1951, and treasured many lifelong friendships made there. After graduating from Indiana University with a degree in Business Marketing, George sold pharmaceuticals for Pitman Moore in San Antonio Texas, (later to be bought by Dow Chemical). Upon his family’s return to Indiana in 1963, George started Hoster and Sieloff, Inc., a manufacturer’s representative firm. George followed his family’s long legacy in the military, serving in the U.S. Army for 8 years, (both active and reserve duty). In addition to helping build homes for Habitat for Humanity, George was an active member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, Gyro Social Club, Service Club (a gathering of military veterans), Highland Country Club, and St. Luke's United Methodist Church. George and his wife, Barbara, shared a unique love story celebrating 66 years of marriage last August. Their family, together with daughters Cindi (Allen) and Julie (Steve), enjoyed countless memories, including summers at the family cottage on Crooked Lake, spring breaks in Florida and extended family gatherings at the holidays. Their grandchildren, Matt (Danielle), Lisa (John), Anni and Josh (Rebbeca), and the latest addition of 3 great grandsons brought incredible joy to George and Barb. A visitation for George will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46260, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM.
