Gary was very passionate about golf. You would always find him on the golf course every chance he could get. Gary was a 5 time champion at Thatcher Golf Club. Gary received an award given to him with the PGA approval for his hole-in-one at Saddlebrook Golf Club in 2002. Gary was a proud member of several golf clubs such as Quail Creek, Deer Creek, Thatcher, and Speedway Golf Club. He loved taking his grandchildren out on the driving range and teaching them how to play. His love for the game of golf will carry on with his grandsons and his son-in-law.
Gary had a passion for cars. A few of his first cars were an Austin Healy, Mustang, and his all time favorite, a 1969 GTO. Gary’s love for automobiles at a young age, started his career in the automotive field. He worked for Sears Automotive for 19 years. He was called and asked to help close down the Sears building in downtown Indianapolis in 1984. Gary was employed in the parts department for a few other local dealerships. Those included Tweeks, Palmer Dodge, Kennedy Automotive, Dellen, and Bob Rhorman. He also worked for a short time at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.
Gary enjoyed many things in his life. He loved listening to the Beatles, watching Formula 1, Ferrari, Indy 500 racing, and his Pepsi. He always had to have Pepsi. He loved candy corn, and giving life savers to his grandkids.
Gary was a loving husband, father, grandpa, Uncle, and friend. Gary was a jokester and loved playing jokes on his family. Gary had a playful and lighthearted outlook on life and could find humor in various situations. No matter how mad he ever made his wife, he always found a way to make her smile and laugh. She never could stay mad at him for long. The day of his passing, he was still making jokes and making his family laugh and smile.
Gary’s best accomplishment in his life, was the role of grandpa to his 5 grandchildren. He loved going on school field trips, school book fairs, trips to the zoo, museums, pumpkin patches, and any other opportunity he had to spend time with them. They all would say they had grandpa wrapped around their pinky. If they ever needed anything, they knew to call grandpa. Any chance Gary had, he would brag about his grandkids. He was always so proud of all of them and their accomplishments.
Gary never met a child that did not win over his heart. Gary was a grandpa to every child that he came in contact with.
