Fred Matthews, Sr.

Mr. Fred Matthews Sr., the son of the late Johnnie and Virginia Matthews was born in Kewanee, Mississippi on January 2, 1929.Fred was united in Holy Matrimony to Mrs. Marjoree Hazel Matthews on February 24,1951. They moved to Indianapolis IN. in September 1951.To this union eight children were born.Fred was a member ofGrace MissionaryBaptist Church. He was a Deacon andfaithfully worked on the Deacon Board.He also sang in the Male Chorus.Fred was actively involved inseveral ministries to include, theUsher Board, Senior Choir, and the Pastor's Aide.Fred was loved by many people, he was a giving and kind man. Fred was known as "Paw-Paw" to many people.Fred retired from Citizen Gas-Coke Utility after 30 years of service. He was later employed at American Aggregate as a foundry technician where he also retired after 21 years.Fred is Preceded in death by wife Marjoree Matthews; son Derek Matthews;two grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters.Fred leaves to cherish his memories sons, Karl Matthews (Frances), Christopher Matthews (Anita), Charles Matthews (Leona), Fred Matthews Jr. (Paulette) and Damon Matthews; daughters Minister Delphine Minor-Cook and Josephine Matthews;longtime companion Essie Parker,14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren; sister Alberta Kelly and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives, god children, church family and many friends.
