Obituary of Don Funkhouser
Don Duane (Pete) Funkhouser, went home to meet his heavenly Father, April 30, 2016. He was born July 23, 1933 at Morristown, Indiana. He was with his loving family at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife of 59 1/2 years, Marlynn (Clark) Funkhouser, sons Ronald, Jeffrey (Tina), Christopher (Jane Kirchner - fiancee), brother Vance D. Funkhouser, granddaughters, grandson, great-granddaughters, great-grandsons, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, O. D. and Jewell (Hine) Funkhouser, sisters Hilda Price and Phoneal Funkhouser. Don was an enthusiastic and principled racing fan having witnessed his first Indy 500 in 1946 while selling newspapers and saw George Robson win the race, and worked as a flagman and race director and promoter of many Karting Events. He was involved with all 3 sons during their Go Kart racing careers, and traveled to many states in their endeavors. Don proudly served his country in the U. S. Army, 1st Cavalry Div., during the Korean War Era 1953 - 1955. Don retired from Allison Transmission after serving 25 years in Security Division as a Fireman. He formerly was the head groundskeeper/park superintendant for the Indianapolis Indians at Bush Stadium in 1950's-1960's. He also co-owned Funkhouser Landscaping Company, building some local baseball fields and other landscaping services. He was a member of Crosspointe/Eagledale Baptist Church and loved his church and church family.
