Obituary of Carol Ann Wilson
With sadness due to our loss we announce the passing of Reverend Carol Ann Wilson. She was born in Indianapolis on June 2, 1940 to Leslie and Gertrude Neiman. Carol died peacefully at her home on June 14, 2023 at the age of 83 in Brownsburg, Indiana. She was married for 62 years to her husband John ‘Jack’ Harold Wilson. Her love of people and desire to serve her community and country led her to volunteer service for the young women at the Girls School when located in Indianapolis, to baking cookies at Christmas to be shipped overseas to our service people during the 1960’s era of the Vietnam War, to supporting opportunities for her political beliefs, to later serving our country at the polls. She also served people and the Town of Speedway Indiana for years as a member and then for one year as President of Speedway Lions Club and also received the Melvin Jones Fellow from Lions International. Her education included attending Speedway High School in the 1950’s and she considered Speedway to be her hometown. Later, she graduated from Indiana University and proceeded on to Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis where she received both her degrees of Master of Divinity and Master of Sacred Theology. She earned her Certificates for Clinical Pastoral Education while serving in pastoral care at Methodist Hospital and also later served as a hospital Chaplain at Ortho Indy. In 1991 she was ordained to the church’s ministry for Jesus Christ at Speedway Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) after her internship there where she especially loved teaching and spending time with children and the elderly ( i.e. taking them on church bus trips even short ones out of the state). She also served as a minister in Shelbyville and the country town of Swayzee, Indiana where she was once thrilled with the opportunity from a parishner to ride a tractor. She started a weekly flower delivery service and along with her husband Jack for years Happily arranged and delivered flowers all across Indianapolis and surrounding area businesses and homes as Office Flower Service. Though she loved adventure and traveling by plane or car she always insisted on following the rules like driving 55 m.p.h. on the interstate while nearly everyone else passed her by with an occasional gesture. Still, she was fun-loving enjoying playing her old baby grand piano that was refurbished by her husband Jack or singing in her old convertible with the top down along with her grandchildren who she loved dearly and always had time for. She is survived by her daughters Cynthia (Jeff) Foxworthy and Loretta (Tom) Whinrey, four grandchildren Matthew (Nikki) Whinrey, Kimbery (Tony) Whinrey Hoover, Jamie (Matt) Driver Smith, Allison (Chris) Driver Vigil and four great grandchildren and her sisters Marilyn (Mike) Shannon and Debra (Jim) Meyer. She was proceeded in death by her husband John ‘Jack’ Harold Wilson and her son John Wilson Jr. Contributions may be made in her memory to any organization of your choice but especially to The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ Church) at disciplesmissionfund.org and specify category or congregation or mail a check to the congregation of your choice or the Speedway Lions Club via the Venmo App by directing it to @Speedway-Lions or writing a check to Speedway Lions Club Lions Club Treasurer 5503 W. 16th Street Speedway, IN 46224 or to Lions Clubs International Foundation at lionsclubs.org and choose your desired field to support. Spunky and adventurous always up for a day at the Indy 500 track even a few weeks before her death, Carol (mom, sister, grammy, Reverend and friend) was fun-loving, determined, Committed and passionate! Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.familyfuneralcareindy.com for the Wilson family.
