Obituary of Mr. Bruce L. Harmon
Bruce L. Harmon, 78, of Indianapolis entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 21, 2012 at his home. Bruce was born January 15, 1934 in Indianapolis to Henry Marion and Lucille (Allen) Harmon. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War and later with the Indiana National Guard. He worked as a contract specialist for Naval Avionics for 30 years, retiring in 1989. Following retirement, Bruce enjoyed working part-time at George Thomas Florist. He was a longtime member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Bruce was a veteran IHSAA official of more than 25 years. He was Chief Umpire of District VII and earned the privilege of umpiring the Little League World Series in 1987. He often taught umpiring clinics in his free time, and also enjoyed being a track supervisor at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He loved family activities, travel and golf. He is survived by his beloved wife, Eva Harmon; children, Mike (Mary) Harmon, Mark (Jodi) Harmon, Mike Wade, Dave (Ann) Wade, Steve (Colleen) Wade and Joanie (Tommy) O’Brien; sister, Rose Richardson; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Bruce was preceded in death by his brother, Darrell Utterback and sisters, Rose Marie Fairchild and Marilyn Mounts. Visitation for Bruce will be from 4-8 PM Today, Wednesday, May 23rd in Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary. Funeral services will begin at the mortuary at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 24th, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM in Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Entombment at Washington Park East Cemetery. The Harmon family extends their sincerest appreciation to the wonderful people of Community Home Health and Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to: Community VNA Hospice or to Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
